Leon to Hospital de Orbigo, day 22.

Well, karma may have slapped us around a bit because we chose to catch the bus again to the outskirts of Leon. There was NOWHERE to get coffee or ANYTHING to eat or drink at 7:30 on a Sunday morning in the big city. Unless, of course, we wanted to go into the pub that was still full of youngsters who hadn't been to bed yet....................but the sun coming up on the buildings on the square was pretty - this is the Bank of Spain.

We started the day with storks on the church bell tower in La Virgen del Camino -

Actually, the tower wall was all that was left, attached to a relatively new church.

Check out this countdown of the kilometers!!

We had about half the day following a highway with commercial and agricultural buildings, the other half tromping through countryside.

We are staying in a town known for a tournament that took place in medieval times, it involved knights from all over Europe, and the fellow who sponsored it, in order to win the favor of a lady, was apparently successful. There is an ancient bridge over the River Orbigo that has been changed and added to over the centuries, and an area where the tournament is re-enacted.

We'll close for today with a photo of the blog artist at work, and storks on another bell tower to end the day in Hospital de Orbigo.

  1. Since you mentioned this was Day 22, I thought I'd look in our journal where we were on Day 22. we walked across the bridge in Hospital de Orbigo early in the morning, had coffee at a cafe at one end of the bridge, then went on to spend the night in Astorga at the Alberque St Javier. Amazing how close you are to our schedule. Remember we started in Roncevalles. Continue to have a Buen Camino, Ann & Bill
