We got our first glimpse of hills in our future!

We were treated to a new and different sort of Camino, don't know what the plan is, but it resembles a roadbed with a hard packed path off to the right.

It occurred to me that part of what made yesterday a strange day of walking was there were no markers. Yes, we followed our families yellow painted arrows on streets, posts, trees and signs, but there were no old, or even new markers. This must have been a relatively new "adjusted" Camino route. Happily though, we were back to markers of many sorts today, some more uplifting than others ;-).

Actually, this last one is our first glimpse of Astorga, a largish town with a cathedral, a cathedral museum of The Way, a chocolate museum, a Gaudi palace, and Roman ruins. I snagged a photo of the Roman house's entry hall mosaics -

And another Roman bridge -

Kind of a cool sculpture as we neared Astorga, when you pumped water for your water bottle, the sculpture guy got a swig as well!

Then we had to cross the train tracks into Astorga - reminded me of the huge water park stairs at Fiesta Texas in San Antonio!

Anyway, when we got to Astorga we found that the cathedral, museum, and Gaudi designed palace were all closed on Mondays! So we took pix of the outsides of the buildings and bought a bar of chocolate.

You can see St. James on the top bit up there, with his pilgrim hat on.

A bishops palace designed by Antonio Gaudi, no longer a bishops palace but a museum. And I looked it up - we did NOT get the word "gaudy", as in over adorned, from the work of Antonio Gaudi.

The afternoons track was hard packed gravel, and the temps got quite warm!!
Boots definitely needed airing and drying!

And B wants to know why, over thousands of years, mankind hasn't figured out a better way to wash clothes!

Last note - I figured out how to buy guafenisin and dextro methorphan in a farmacia today - those of you who know me well know that a virus will catch me directly in the throat - I am having a couple of very quiet Camino days.
