the albergue where we stayed was incredibly humid inside, although it was nice that it was not over-heated. This AM boots, jackets and gloves were still damp! Luckily, B paid the big bucks (7€, about $8.75) to have our stinky, wet clothes washed and dried in a machine!
We had a superb communal dinner with some amazing company, I had a long and fascinating conversation with a Russian (now American) woman who escaped the Soviet Union in the late 70's when Soviet Jews were being exported to Israel (but few of them actually went to Israel). She is a mechanical engineer just retired from a long career with the Defense Dept!!

Our table here has British, German, American, French, Mexican, and New Zealanders!
So, this morning we started with rain threatening again, but made it about 2 hours to Melide, walking and talking with a couple from Minneapolis. Look carefully - the bell tower at Melide kind of cracked me up-

As we got up to the other end of Melide (which is a fairly big town) we found a lovely little church and it's attached former convent that was open.

I was surprised how beautiful this church was inside - it's a lot for a small community to support.

I'd love to know what this organ sounds like :-)

The rain did manage to hold off for most of the day, though we walked through the occasional sprinkle. There were LOTS of puddles and this perfect movie-set of a footbridge!

Looking very PNW around here, moss and ferns galore!

Above is a photo of our pension room,

And we ate dinner on the square near the church, showers and sun alternating regularly.
We are so going to miss 3 courses for 9€ (about $10.50), including red, or white, or both!

Ensalata mixta is always yummy, and ALWAYS contains tuna :-)

Can't get away from fries, today with chicken skewers, also had ice cream or almond cake for dessert.

Another long day tomorrow, about 29km, but then a short stroll into Santiago on Friday morning. Not sure how I feel about that yet............

Oops, just hit something and poof away my comment went. Suffice it to say - it all looks lovely, especially the footbridge. It is a movie set dream. The rains make for good photos, even of that interesting modernization of the bell tower. Glad you have such fascinating dining companions and truly marvelous to be finding more charming things at this stage of your walk. Cheers peregrinos. Eat, Drink and Be Merry as you stroll along. - M
