Long day, short post

We had masses of company leaving Portomarin this morning, lots of pilgrims in a merry mood even though the skies were threatening gray.

There was hardly a time when we couldn't see 50 or more pilgrims by looking ahead and or behind us. The Camino version of rush hour - all day.

By the time we stopped for juice and a banana the raindrops were just starting, so on with the pack covers and jackets; within about 20 minutes we gave in to putting the rain pants on and that was the outfit for the rest of the day!
Unfortunately, pouring rain is not conducive to whipping out the phone from underneath it all to snap pictures. It ended up being a rather introspective day, the rain hood pretty well limits sight lines; on the other hand, there weren't a lot of unique things to record.
We did see a pretty ancient marker with crucifix on one side and either Madonna and child or Pieta' on the other,

and a luxury version of the corn crib that appeared to come along after the older wooden one.......

And finally, a Spanish gentleman carrying what first appeared to be a pile of sticks but was later revealed to be the rootball/stump of a very dead little tree. The Spanish seem to shepherd and conserve EVERYTHING!

So, back to my introspective day. I have met and chatted with several people over the past two days who have really driven home to me, once again, the fact that my Camino is mine alone, I am doing it for reasons known only to me and God, and that every single person I have seen in the past five weeks is also on their own Camino. I spent a good while today asking forgiveness for the times that my thoughts have been critical or unkind. Onward and upward!
